summary
This house is a
rooted, solid retreat with refined lodge-like elements. It is situated
to take advantage of the natural contours and landscape of the secluded
wooded site while the patio offers gracious areas for outdoor gatherings.
The solid base of natural stone grows out of the landscape and offers a
textured contrast to the sharper detailing of robust mahogany supporting
brackets and spreading wood trusses. The floor plan organizes intimate
individual spaces around open gathering areas. Each upper level
interior space assumes its own spatial character as it lives under and then
grows out of the roof. The roof is an organic, casual expression of
the spaces within.
