The architectural
expression for this family residence was heavily influenced by the client,
whose imagination had been captured by the romance of medieval architecture.
The end design, with its center turret and a stone and stucco exterior,
reflects this concept. The spiral staircase inside the turret even curves in
the direction of medieval castle staircases. Set on a wooded lot, the house
was sited carefully to allow for beautiful views. Indoors, the space remains
open and light by the use of glass and many windows. A “retreat room” was
provided towards the back of the house to provide solace for a busy mother,
and the living room was designed around a grand piano for the pianist in the
family.
