After an accumulation of snow
and ice collapsed the sanctuary of Oakdale Park Christian Reformed Church in
January 1999, the congregation viewed the rebuilding process as an
opportunity to develop a master plan. Direct and regular interaction between
the church task force committee and AMDG Architects helped to articulate and
prioritize goals for integrating the plan with the congregation's vision for
ministry. AMDG Architects also worked closely with the committee to refine
program needs and cost estimates. Site constraints within a dense urban
neighborhood prompted the development of several options. The resulting
master plan accommodates incremental additions to the existing structure
while preserving the scale of the neighborhood. The master plan also
incorporates acquisition of adjacent properties as well as those already
owned by the church, vacating the adjacent street for building expansion and
outdoor worship, and sensitivity to preservation of scarce housing within
the neighborhood. |
