“AMDG Architects have worked with Grand Rapids Christian Schools on numerous projects over the past five years. AMDG provides creativity as well as enthusiasm and exceptional technical capabilities to all aspects of a project. The relationships AMDG have established with internal and external groups are excellent. What really sets AMDG apart, however, is the passion and commitment they bring to our projects. They fully understand our organization’s mission, are a trusted steward of our resources, and have consistently delivered all projects on time and under budget. They have provided a listening ear, a strong voice, and trusted leadership for our community. I highly recommend AMDG Architects for your project!”

 summary

Rockford, URS and AMDG partnered together to design the Wellness Center on the north face of campus.  Challenges included zoning, sensitivity to community and integration with the existing adjacent building.  In response, AMDG went through a process for approval, presenting design features that softened the impact of size, preserved green space and respected neighboring properties.  In effect, one enters the center on the upper level, providing dramatic overlooks onto the gymnasium below.  Also, the Wellness Center connects to the existing high school in two locations, accommodating for ease of flow.  The practice facility includes two basketball and three volleyball cross-courts and has a seating capacity of 1,850 providing for competition events.  A fitness center, several locker rooms and an upgraded training room provide a comfortable non-threatening environment for both the non-athlete and the athlete.  An interior courtyard meets code requirements for existing classrooms and also collects natural light in the capacious lobby.  The lobby serves as a gathering area for events and also as an everyday eating space supported by a major concessions area.
