AMDG teamed with
URS on this existing field renovation. Specific project goals
included: improving safety, creating a barrier-free stadium, upgrading the
track surrounding the field to eight lanes in order to comply with OK
conference specifications, using a synthetic turf field for better usage of
the facility on the existing site, providing home and visitor locker rooms
with new concessions and public rest rooms, and improving field lighting and
acoustics. A major challenge was working within the constraints of a
tight site and with surrounding residential neighborhood and railroad
tracks. Other challenges included state and local variances and
approval, coupled with an extremely aggressive schedule. The design
solution provides a pedestrian plaza raised above the playing fields to
maximize viewing opportunities, and reinforce the overall experience.
