The Hughes Medical
Office Building is the third phase of an existing medical campus. The
three-story building will house a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical
center with surgeon offices and accessory medical uses to support it. AMDG
led a project design team that included owner, future tenants, construction
manager, engineers, and pre-selected sub-contractors, taking advantage of a
diverse knowledge base to design a facility that will support the top
medical procedures of today and can adapt to the technologies of tomorrow.
The design for the building integrates itself into two different challenging
conditions: a developing campus and a steeply sloping hillside. By using the
same material palette in an entirely different manner, AMDG was able to
integrate the building into its campus setting while providing it with a
distinctive identity. By incorporating the building into the hillside, AMDG
was able to provide three levels of on-grade access into the building,
helping to efficiently move patients and medical supplies in and out of the
building. The hillside also afforded the opportunity to present an
impressive public face to the community while maintaining a human scale at
the campus level. This dual condition is highlighted by a light, sweeping
canopy that identifies the main entrance, protects patients being dropped
off for procedures, and is a signature piece for the building. |
